My husband and I are pregnant with LO #2. We have chosen our boy name and it's set in stone because both FN and MN are family names.
We are having such a difficult time agreeing on girl names.
My DD # 1 is Jolie Kate and we call her by this double name. We want complimentary sibset names. We really like double names and would like the same for a future daughter. The only name that we have both fully agreed on is-
Adelie Layne - Possible NN "Addie Layne"
My mom has told me that Adelie sounds a little made up but it is in fact an older french name. Jolie is french as well...We were not going for that relation, but I like it! We would pronounce it "Add-Ah-Lee" I do not care for overly common names, at all.
The other name that my husband loves is Abigail and though it is a lovely name, I can't make myself love it!
I would appreciate any opinions...Or similar naming suggestions?
Re: Adelie?
What about Adele, Adeline or Adelaide?
Adelie is a species of penguin, I don't love it for a baby.
Jolie IS in fact french.
But Adelie... Try either Ad?le or Ad?la?de...
Especially not pronounced like "Add-DA-Lee", the "e" should be "Add-DEY-Lee"...
But what do I know.
Baby Name Popularity by State
Thanks. I'm aware that it is pronounced differently in a french accent but living in the South it wouldn't sound as nice pronounced "Ad-DEY-Lee" with a thick southern accent. (Haha!)
Maybe that's a good enough reason to scrap it and start over but this has been the only name we've agreed on. Thanks for your feedback.
I thought of penguins too. Penguins are cute and all (Adelie penguins are particularly cute) but I wouldn't name my kid after one.
Jolie is a French word, not a French name (it would be on par with an English-speaking person naming her child Beautiful or Precious...just not done, and if it is done, generally laughed at) so I wouldn't worry about using a French name to make them match. Maybe Adelia, Adela, Adeline, Azalea?
Agree. I'd pronounce it as you say and I think it's so cute. Jolie is too, and they pair well, in my opinion.
Same
I love Elodie, My husband vetoed it, quickly.
A few of my favorite names are, of course, Adelie, Stella, Isla, Sophia "Sophie" (But the popularity bothers me), Ensley, Laurel, Ana Claire, Analeise, Juliana, Juliet...But my husband has nixed them all. That's why we are having such a difficult time agreeing.
He likes Lainey, Abigail, Adelie...And that's pretty much it!
I think Adelie Layne is a lot for a first name. Three syllables in the first name when you are doing a double first name is just a lot.
Adele Layne
Lainey Claire
Claire Ann
Julie Ann
Stella Claire
IDK. Just throwing out some that use the ones you like and maybe he'll like them with a different combination?

I love Adelie. I don't think Jolie and Adelie are way too matchy, especially if you are planning to call her Addie.
Adelie is a legitimate name. In fact, it was a name before it was a penguin -- the penguin was named after an Antarctic explorer's wife. I think it's reasonable if you live in an English-speaking area to pronounce it in an Anglicized way.
Here's a write-up on Adelie, including history:

I completely understand your feedback about the southern accent situation, im here in Texas, my little girls middle name is Olivia. My DH is hispanic and pronounces it Oh-Lee-Vee-ah and I say Uh-Liv-Ee-ah ..Haha.
But anyway, when I first glanced I was clueless how to pronounce it and I also seen it as an Adele reference pronounced maybe Ah-Deli. Buuuuuut, I like Add-ah-lee.
Maybe a different spelling,
Adalie , Adaley, Adalei.
Or maybe Adelyn. Addelyn.
