One & Done: Only child

Board description change?

Can we petition for a change to the board description?

The bit about spoiling your one and only is seriously awful.

Re: Board description change?

  • I agree - it implies we do and others don't.  We are 98% sure we are done with one.
  • Thanks for saying this.  I looked at that description and thought ick...I don't want the spoiled stereotype to apply to my kid.

  • I agree!   While I admit to overindulging a bit, I do my best not to "spoil" my son.

Maybe just get rid of the word "spoiling" and change to:

"Love being a parent to your little one and only? This is the board for you!"

  • Yes, please!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who found that annoying.

  • Agreed.  We may be one and done but we don't spoil our daughter anymore than we would if we had another.  Very distasteful IMO.

For real.  Please tell me one person with no oversight picked that.  Otherwise, there was a room full of idiots and this was their best idea.

I'd like to think the former, but would have to say it's more likely the latter.

  • Hi everyone! Sorry -- we're changing it to:

Are you raising an only child? This board is for you!

Thank you so much! The "spoiled" comments make me cringe - it's never positive.

Am I the only one that doesn't find it offensive? I would love to have more children but Hadley is it for us.... but being able to spoil her is one of the few benefits of having only one.

I just hate thinking of my child as being "spoiled."  It makes me think of rotten milk.  My BIL is spoiled, and he is definitely rotten milk.  My little lady is a sweetheart.

It's also a myth that only children are spoiled because they are only children.  It has nothing to do with being an only child, and everything to do with parenting choices, you know?

  • I personally spoil the crap out of my daughter, but it was a silly description.
