DS has had hard stools since he turned 1. He eats lots of fruit and vegetables, only drinks water and gets a fair amount of exercise. He has been on Colace drops for months and they do nothing for him. He was up last night for hours trying to make a BM on the potty. I feel terrible for him and my doc says it's common at this age but hasn't offered any solutions.
If your LO has/had these issues, have you found anything to work? Thanks in advance.
Re: Constipation
If he's really backed up and hasn't gone yet - try giving him some apple juice or pprune juice to get things going now.
I give my dd miralax daily. From what I've read and heard from other moms its incredibly common to have to do miralax daily. I give my daughter about 3/4 of a tablespoon through the day - I generally put in about 1/4 of a tablespoon in her milk at each meal.
She use to have tons of trouble, and rock hard stools that were just nasty, but this has really helped.
Good Luck.
We are also using Miralax. We are using it every 3 days, it makes DD1's poop too soft and she can't control it if I give it everyday. She needed it because she was holding her poop (she developed a fear of pooping when she went to underwear) and causing constipation. It has worked great in the few weeks that she's been on it and has gotten over her fear of pooping.
