My daughter is Avalin. The Ava in her name is pronounced with a short A, like "avalanche". We very rarely get her name mispronounced, but when we do it's with a long A, like "Ava Lynn."
How are you thinking Avalyn would be pronounced? Short or long A at the beginning? If short A, might I suggest Avelyn? Like Evelyn with an A, which is the way I explain our Avalin's name.
I prefer the short-a pronunciation however DH prefers the Ava Lynn pronunciation. Ava is just too popular for me, especially in our area. I also considered the spelling as Avelyn or Aveline but DH is not a fan.

We are pretty set on A names and Ava alone is just too popular

I'm not sure which one I like better... I'm torn as they are both just "okay" to me.
I know how to pronounce Ailey... that is...if you are going with the same pronunciation as the last name Ailey (as in Alvin Ailey). But even though I know how to pronounce it, it has always seemed awkward to say to me. Like I have to twist my tongue/mouth a bit to get it right and have to think about it before I say it.
I'm also curious if the first "a" in Avalyn is long or short. I assume short (like Avalon). And I think that's how most people would pronounce it.
My DD is Ainsley. Sounds similar to Ailey but feels more complete to me.
This.
I like Ainsley but DH doesn't, My preference is Annika but he is not sold yet...

Not too fond of those names.
What about Ayla ?
