Cloth Diapering

What do you think of Charlie Banana diapers?

My sister saw the Charlie Banana diapers at Target and was wondering if they were any good?  I am new to CD and expecting my first baby in June.  After doing lots of research I think that the All-in-ones will be best for our family.

How much different are the Charlie Bananas from an AIO?  Do I need a cover for the Charlie Bananas?  How well do they work and hold up, I am getting mixed reviews online and wanted some unbiased opinions.  Thanks!

Re: What do you think of Charlie Banana diapers?

  • Charlie Bananas are pocket diapers. You do not need a cover. They have an opening in the front where you place an insert/soaker. The inserts come with it. You take the insert out before washing. The PUL portion of the diaper hang dries and the insert can go in the dryer. The one-size diapers have adjustable leg elastics similar to how you adjust bra straps.

I have a couple and I really like them.

  • I was thinking about getting some of those too as I saw them in target and they were a good deal. I think even for a set of 6 it broke down to be about 16 a dipe which wasn't too bad of a deal. I wish they had cuter prints though.

ETA: The price at target is better than ordering them off the CB website.

  • I was just about to ask this myself! I was looking at the Charlie Banana One Size. Another question-how well do they fit newborns? I am trying to see if I can get away with one set of diapers instead of a newborn set and then another for after.

    All of this.

We started CDing our toddler (a little late to the game with him) and I loved the prints that Target had. To start, I just bought 1 because I do have other OS diapers that I use just for DS1. I actually really like the Charlie Banana dipes. So far, I haven't had any issues. I went back and bought 2 more shortly after my first one.

One thing though, is that I don't know if they just run big or DS1 is skinny, but to secure the diaper to him, I am snapping it all the way across, and he is almost 3 and over 30 lbs. I haven't tried them on DS2 because I mostly use prefolds and covers with him, but I don't think they'd come close to fitting him any time soon.

I just responded to something similar in my post, but I'll say that for us, anything but infant size or size 1 Osocozy prefolds and covers meant major leakage with DS2 as a newborn and sometimes even now.

Prefolds are generally pretty cheap and there's always the option to buy both the prefolds and the covers used. We use a lot of Thirsties size 1 covers from when we started CDing him after we got home from the hospital and those have been really good to us. They are supposed to fit until they are 18 lbs, so that should be a while. By then, I'll probably switch to a OS, hopefully. Either way, a lot of dipes have a great resell value, so if you feel the need to get two different sets, you can get a lot of your investment back if you don't plan on saving them for another baby.
