Help! Constipated 4 mo

Hi, my poor little one is constipated and I don't know what to do to help.  He is exclusively on breast milk.  He had a stool last tuesday, friday, and now were on to monday night with still no activity.  He seems very uncomfortable, kicking his leags and crying (not all the time, just throughout the day), and has a lot of gas.  Any tips to help relieve him?? how many months is your LO? i know when mine was 3months his bowel movements became alot less frequent due to being exclusively breastfed and apparently thats normal as their body is absorbing as much nutrients as possible. maybe its just the gas that is upsetting him possibly.

Talk to your pediatriatrion before you do this but we had to help my now 2 year old. We actually had to use suppository's when he wouldn't go as you could tell he was in a lot of pain. The good news is he out grew it. Good luck.

he is 4 months old, maybe it is the gas.  His abdomen doesn't feel that hard, I mean it is firm but not rock hard.  He is also happy about 50% of the time, he just gets little crying fits and kicks his legs. I actually have a pediatrician appointment tomorrow morning so it is good timing at least, I will ask her about it. 

 Is it normal for the poop to get thicker consistancy?  It was always really loose and watery and last time it was thick lik toothpaste.  Is that normal??

This is normal if he is strictly breastfed.  It is normal to go up to 2 weeks without a bowel movement.   When they are that young, constipation is not defined as not having to go to the bathroom but the consistency of the poop (it'd be hard).   If he is gassy that is good.  Massage his tummy, do bicycle legs, massage the anus, or you can insert the tip of a thermometer gently in the rectum to get  the movement going.  Depending on how much he's eating, there might not be enough "waste" to make enough bowel.  Went through this all with my lo.   Good luck.
