Baby Showers

Number of items on registry?

Ftm here and curious how many items other ladies have on their registries. Dh and I are doing cloth diapers, so 1/4th of our registry consists of those. Our shower probably will have 100 or so people, how many items should we register for? I don't want to look greedy.

Re: Number of items on registry?

  • I think DH and I had 100ish on ours- but we put everything on there for the completion discount, and some of it was due to multiples (i.e. several packs each of diapers, wipes, pacis, bottles, etc.).

I think the important thing is to have a variety of price points, and make sure that you have enough items under $30 for your shower guests, since that is the range that many people are looking to spend.  Close family or groups might want to chip in on larger items.

  • BRU suggested that we scan 5 items for every guest we expect. In my case that  would be about 225 items, but I found that number to be ridiculous. I know I like to have a variety of options when I shop a registry, so I scanned around 110 items.

That's what i've been trying to do is keep most things under 30. The little things add up quicker though.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around a 100 people at a baby shower.

It happens. My extended family is huge. My cousin's shower had something like 70 people, and it was all women. Between her parents (mom & stepmom), her sister, two stepsisters, her sisters-in-law, all our cousins, nieces, aunts, grandmas, four great aunts, her many friends, her school/undergrad/med school friends, her husband's female relatives, and her & her husband's co-workers, it added up.

  • I'd say 100 to 150 items is the average for what I've seen for other mothers.

My Target registry has 130 items on it, but it also includes some of the items that Hubby and I have bought for the baby. We put them on there, and they show as purchased, so that if others think, "Oh, she'll love this. She needs one of these. She just didn't know to register for this....", well, then they will know what we already have!

  • I would love to know how long a shower is with 100 guests lol (Being serious). I really don't think amount is frowned upon unless it's all super expensive ridiculous amounts. DH and I decided long ago before TTC that we would not register for clothing, blankets, toys, or things like that. People will buy it because they feel it's cute. Ours will be things we feel we need to function in our day to day life with traveling between families and products I researched or read reviews on I wish to try to use.

That still seems excessive to me.  It would never even occur to me to invite my husband's co-workers to my baby shower.

By the time they had their first daughter, they had both been in their careers for at least 10 years. They were close to their co-workers. I think there were only 3 or 4 of her husband's co-workers there of the total guests anyway.

  • Seeing as it's a coed shower and we have a tight knit large group of friends who all want to support our baby, it adds up quickly. Not to mention family.

I did my registry at BRU and they definitely suggest it to be much larger than I would have ever made it! I put about 60 items too but I only had 15 people attending.

OP, you mentioned that you will have around 100 people attending. I would say you need 100+ items or else people may run into everything being gone (not likely since not everyone will buy off of the registry but better safe than sorry).

I was wondering if I should add more, but with our wedding (which I know is a different story) I way overshot it and most people just got us gift cards. We'll see.

  • We will have between 60-70 at ours....this is just family a few close friends. I have a large family....even birthday parties that number is the norm.

    Edit-

I agree with PP to have a variety of items that are priced so that people can afford them.
