Thompson as a first name...

WDYT?

It's a family name. But with it being so popular as a last name (#17) I'm not sure it would work as a first. TIA.

    Not crazy about.
I feel like he would inevitably become Tom and then people would assume it's short for Thomas and be wrong.

  • Some last names don't strike me as "last name as a first name", but this one... it screams that and I really don't like it.

  • Sorry, it should never be a first name.

  • I don't mind family surnames as first names, and it's sort of a family tradition for us (three of DH's siblings and our DD).  But I'm not sure this one works.  DS's MN is my maiden name because I didn't feel comfortable with it in the FN position.

  • I don't mind family surnames as first names, especially if it is very important (i.e. your maiden name).

If you are on the fence, use it as the middle name.

  • This isn't a last name as a first name I could get behind.

  • I really dislike the "last name used as a first name" trend. It always seems like the parents are trying to be overly "cool."

  • I actually love it and think its fabulous! It's one of the better last names as first that I've heard. I also don't think it's as popular as many other ones out there right now!

It's not a 'made up' name. It's not purposely misspelled to be 'unique'.

     I say go for it!

  • I usually like last names as first name, especially when they are family name, but this one doesn't really work for me.  It may be that I just have never heard it as a first name before but it is a very common last name in my area.
  • I like it because I know the most adorable little girl named Thompson :)

  • I like it!  My son's name is Bennett, which is a last name. But that's not why we chose it. We chose it because we liked the nick name Ben but disliked the name Benjamin. If you love it who cares what people think!
