NBR: Diaphragm?

Anyone had any experience with this?  What are your thoughts?

I want a non-hormonal bc, and paraguard has failed me (it's come out twice now after careful steps taken by my obgyn so it shouldn't; she says this has happened a few times since she's been in practice, and I should probably look for other options).  My obgyn said she's willing to fit me for a diaphragm if I'd like.

I just don't know if it'd be less hassle to just stick with condoms, or if this might be worth looking into.  Any insight?

  • I had one before having kids and liked it. However, I would look at the failure rates for women who've had previous deliveries, especially previous vaginal deliveries. It's significantly less effective after you've given birth. Just make sure you're comfortable with that.

You're supposed to get re-sized after giving birth, so that may make a difference.

I have one and DH and I both like it fine. I use it with spermacidal-films (instead of foam or gel). No accidental pregnancies yet.

    Thanks for the info!

I haven't read / heard that diaphragms lose effectiveness after giving birth; I saw it for cervical caps, but not diaphragms.  If there's a website or source that says that and you could point me to it, that'd be great!

And spermicidal-films...that sounds much less messier!  Hmmmm...I might have to look into that!
