Baby Names

Penny

I posted awhile back, but thought I'd get some fresh feedback. :)

We're thinking of naming DD#2 Penny (not Penelope, just Penny). Name would be Penny Suzanne [you can probably figure out my last name]. DD#1 is Holly Kathryn.

DH loves it, and I have to admit it's growing on me. But I just wonder if it's too nickname-y for a given standalone name. How does it go with Holly?

Thoughts?

(I'm also open to other name ideas if you're so inspired Smile)

  • I really like Penny. I'm not so sure about it as a standalone name but I think I could get used to it.

  • I like it.  I have a Penelope so it isn't far from my DDs name which is probably why I like it.  :-).

I know a few women who go by Penny.  Their given name is Penelope but when they introduce themselves it's Penny.  As far as professionals go they will not ignore her application simply because she is named Penny.  She will still have a chance to be respected as an adult.

    i say, go for it!

  • I have a soft spot for Penny because it was our first dog's name...she was named after the Beatles song.  Honestly though I'm not a huge fan of it as a standalone, but I wouldn't side-eye you for doing it.

I think it's ok as a NN for Penelope.

I love Penelope with the nn Penny but not Penny as a stand alone name. Sorry.

Me too. I just can't get on board with Penny as a full name. Too nicknamey/cutesy to me. I'd want her to have something more formal for certain professional purposes.
