How often do you read, or attempt to read to your LO?
I usually try to ready to Skyler once per day, but it doesn't always happen. She has little patience for my reading skills, and usually changes the page before I finish with it.
I'm a working Mom. During the week it's before dinner (if dinner has cooked itself) or right before bed. On the weekend it's in the morning or in the early afternoon after his nap.
I give him books all the time. So he'll be in the stroller or the wagon "Reading". It's super cute. He's getting it.
We read to Lucia before each nap, and before bed, plus probably at least 1 or 2 more times per day. Reading to them is so important. She also sits and looks at books herself. But when I read to her, I hold the pages clamped until it's time to turn, so she has to wait. She still better for books with fewer words per page, or songs (like Snuggle Puppy or Barnyard Dance), or for the Karen Katz flip books. When she's reading herself, she can turn the pages as quickly as she likes.
We don't as often as we should. Leo loves reading on his own and would all day if I let him, but if I try to sit there and read to him he just shoves my hands away and wants to do it on his own. To the point of near tantrum, so we just gave up for now. We're just embracing that he actually wants to read whether or not I'm reading the words to him.
We attempt to do one before bed occasionally and it sometimes works because he's tired.
My kid also likes to grab the book and try to change the page too.
I don't use books that aren't cardboard, anything besides paper. I will wait until he's mature enough to handle that. But I try to keep the page, but if he turns it I'll just let him and read that page instead. If he enjoys a page more than the others, I point out everything that is on that page or go off into my own version of the story. Sometimes I'll sum it all up for him...
I just recently started trying to get him into it. I just gave up when he started destroying all of the books! He doesn't seem to try to eat them so much anymore.
I tried to read to him at least once per day. This is usually at bed time now that our bed time routine has changed since he's not getting a bottle anymore. However, it's usually the same 2 books...Good Night Moon, which he makes me find that one and read it(he won't settle down 'til it's read) and the other is a touchy feely book that he loves. All the other books that I have, which I think is a pretty decent selection, he just gets mad and keeps hunting for Good Night Moon. I try to at least "read" one other one just for the sake of mixing it up. I've found that really "reading" the book most of the time doesn't work...like reading the words does not hold his interest. I have to do more of a point and just name things and make it silly "Oh, look at the red car. The car goes honk honk honk", that kind of reading.
We read to Nat at least once per day before bedtime. But she will usually sit next to her bookshelf and look through books. She's such a bookworm, it's hilarious! I don't think DH and I were ever that into books like she is. We usually read about 5 books to her but she will sit through as many as you will let her.
We read to him all throughout the day. He has a lot of book so we keep most of them in his room, but he also has some in his playroom and some downstairs in the family room. Like Buddy, he'll pick a book and bring it to you and wants to sit in your lap to read. We alsways have him sit in our lap while we read and its funny because Connor and the nanny go to the library for story time and he tries to climb in the librarian's lap too.
I read a book to Reece everynight before bed while I rock him and he drinks his bottle. It works great and he pays attention and seems to look forward to it. I tell him after I am done getting his Jammies that we are going to read a book and he will reach for his book shelf. When I am done with the book, he finishes his bottle and I put him down for the night. I love the quiet one on one time.

We read to Addy every day- no real set schedule yet (I'm hoping to incorporate it into her bedtime when we eliminate her nighttime bottle). Right now we just read to her when she seems interested. She often will bring us books and want to look at them. She doesn't typically let us read the story to her, but she points out everything and says "What's this?" Any of her animal books are fun- she loves making the different animal noises. She also loves turning the pages too. I'm hoping she will start letting us read a story soon- she's just on the go too much to sit still right now. But, she is definitely interested because she constantly brings us books and wants to look at them.
We read at bedtime. It was a lot easier when he was still taking a bottle because he would just lay there and listen. Now that we've weaned off bottles he has no patience for it, he usually cries to get down and play with his toys..::sigh::
I try to read to him, but he doesn't let me. He's very interested in shutting my hands in the book. I do catch him looking at books on his own though, so I know he is interested in them. He just does not have the patience to sit while I read to him.
Minimum of once per day. Part of our nighttime bed routine is reading with dad before the last bottle. She has also gotten to grabbing books during the day and bringing them to us, and our policy is to never refuse to read to her if she brings the book to us and we even possibly have the time.

When home I read before each nap, but during the work week I read 3 books between dinner and bedtime. My news year resolution is to read to LO 3 books a day.
I read to my daughter as much as I can. We normally sit down at least 2-3 times a day and she will bring me books. If she's in a mood, I can ask her if she'd like to read some books and it fixes her mood. I hold all the pages closed until I have finished with the page and then let her turn it, otherwise she will turn the pages before I'm finished. If the books have too many words, I just summarize the pictures. She also "reads" books by herself throughout the day.
Holding the page down tightly is a good idea. I will try, although she has a bit of a temper. Thanks for the tip ladies!
Lucia sometimes gets mad when I won't let her turn the page, but if I see her starting to ramp up I point to different things while I read (or do animal sounds if the book has animals) and it usually distracts her and she wants to point too. Might help!
