Re: Pregnancy Check-in

  • We're doing really well. 18 weeks tomorrow, in maternity pants/bella band/yoga pants all the time now for comfort, feeling regular movement, and we have our anatomy scan this Thursday (a bit earlier than I wanted, but we're squeezing it in before my MIL and her sisters arrive for a visit).

C has been very involved and very sweet. In the first tri, she would tell me to nap while she did stuff around the house (dishes, etc). Recently, I haven't needed to nap and she's been working more with her promotion, but there's more of an emotional component. When she gets home she'll say hi to the baby, before bed she says good-night, etc. We chat about the baby, pregnancy, plans a lot and she always amazes me how much she pays attention and really cares about what I'm thinking/feeling/wanting. I think she's most excited about the new baby being on the outside, and honestly once we're out of the newborn phase. I think she's most nervous about the level of responsibility and working full-time with a wife and baby at home.

Doing well here, due date coming up on Thursday.  I go back and forth between feeling like he's going to come any minute and feeling like I'm going to have to battle to not be induced because I go 2 full weeks late.

He's still not positioned ideally, so I went to a follow-up workshop last night with my Doula and got some really good information about different things to try during labor to be most efficient.  I'm still prepared for a long one though.  My favorite thing about last night was when the midwife felt my belly and referred to the baby as being of "A very polite size."  Hah!  At least I don't have to worry about battling a poorly positioned bohemith.  Big Smile

As mentioned in previous threads, my partner hasn't been the most involved or outwardly supportive person throughout this pregnancy.  I know she cares and I know she's really nervous.  I think some things she's done that were really helpful and displayed her involvement have to do with getting our high-needs puppy as ready as possible for this addition to the family. She really took responsibility there.  And, as always - pregnancy or not, she has picked up a lot of my slack when it comes to household chores and stuff.  I think she is most nervous about us having enough time in the day to get everything done and still care for and enjoy this child.  We both work very stressful, long long long hour jobs.  We have yet to figure out exactly how everything is going to fit.  I'm nervous about it too.

  • In recent days, we've had a flurry of activity, both in non-baby related things and in baby related things.

Aside from selling the house in 3 days and not having another one lined up, my only job was to find us an interim apt if we'll need it (done!) and that's it. S has required that I not worry about the rest like lining up movers, inspection, appraisal, and all the other stuff that goes along with moving and buying. We continue on the quest for a house tonight.

In baby related news, we had a scan and first OB appt last week, got some great pictures and even made a video of the baby moving and kicking around, just amazing and so cool. Had my NT scan this morning. Again, baby is looking great, measuring now ahead by about 3 days at 12w even, HR still great at 169. And I finally got my over the belly u/s! It is SO crazy how quick they grow. The baby is clearly very comfortable with it's hands over it's eyes, as we've seen that now twice and I keep wondering what that little face is going to look like. :) They had my results today for the NT as well. Basically my risk went from being 31/32, to being 20 years old! So, we're very pleased with that and expect that slowly but surely over the next couple of weeks, we will be spreading the news since we've told only a handful of people. The worst part is our parents. I mean, I know we have to do it sometime, but I'm literally dreading it for both of us. Regardless, I couldn't be more happy right now and I'm starting to feel a little more comfortable in the role of "expectant mother". :)

QOTD: S has been amazing. Mostly making light of how much my body has changed ( in a funny way), helping so much with ms, which I still have, and just generally being SO thrilled about this baby. We are tackling a lot, but it's going to be worth it and she's is really carrying a lot of the load right now. And it doesn't go unnoticed.  Any suggestions for a thank you gift for a partner are greatly appreciated!

  • 37 weeks on Thursday (ticker is off), have an appointment tomorrow and they are going to check me. Been feeling so many of the "typical" labor is coming signs. Increased BH's, rectal pressure, increased discharge, lower back pain, pelvic pain, cramps, restlessness.....etc.

QOTD: This hasn't just been my pregnancy this is OUR pregnancy. My DP has been my rock. She takes care of everything, insurance, dr paperwork, registration for the hospital, signed us up for all our new parent classes, housework, she's gone to every dr appointment. I cant think of any way she could be more involved.

I haven't gotten to these chapters in my books yet (and maybe I'm not ready to). This all sounds terrible scary and also exciting!

I'm looking forward to all the birth stories of everyone that is due soon!

  • It's been a few weeks since I've checked in. Things have been busy here!

I'm constantly measuring ahead, so thedoctors moved my due date up to July 2nd, but I'm not going to change my ticker or what I tell people the due date is. It's just confusing and not worth the hassle.

I started feeling movement at around 20 weeks. J was able to feel kicks a couple weeks ago and I was able to see movement from the outside just yesterday! It's definitely a distraction, but a very pleasant one! Sadly, he tends to move mostly during the day while J is at work so she hasn't been able to enjoy it with me quite yet.

Friends of ours started giving us some hand me downs. I'm so excited to not have to worry about getting a high chair, bath tub, bottles, a sterilizer, etc. My dad also just purchased a crib, crib mattress, mattress pad and a sheet last night. Two of the items are ready to be picked up in the store and the other two are being shipped. I'm so glad to have so many things taken care of already! I feel so ahead of the game, lol.

We're so excited to hit viability day this week! Yay! Not so excited about the dreaded glucose test on the 28th though.

I just signed us up for a bunch of baby and birth related classes. Friday we have a breastfeeding class! End of April we begin our childbirth classes. In May we have a baby care class, a maternity health fair and our hospital tour. In June we have an infant first aid and CPR class. It's going to be a really busyfew months!

QOTD: J is extremely involved, which is obvious from what I stated above. She spoils me by picking up whatever I'm craving on her way home, lately its been hot fudge Sundays. She wants to know every single detail about my pregnancy and is so excited. I'm so lucky to have her.

Sorry for all of the typos. I'm on mobile.

  • I'll be 16 weeks on Thursday which seems crazy - somehow I feel like I've been pregnant forever, and I should be further along! Yet, I'm enjoying every minute of this pregnancy now that the first tri is a thing of the past :). I had a prenatal appt. Friday with our midwife and all was well. She listened to the baby's heartbeat and said my uterus felt like it was a 'good size.' I'm still not showing per se but my body has changed a lot and I've busted out some of the maternity clothes a friend handed down to me. I love them! It's like wearing pajama pants to work, but I think I look more dressed up in some of them than in my regular clothes!

We are trying out names right now. We decided we'd try naming the baby for a week at a time - if at the end of the week we haven't kicked that name out, it stays on the list. The first name got kicked out on day 2. Just wasn't right. The second name is sticking - we love it - but we do have others to try. It's been a fun distraction and also keeps me from overthinking it and rather I am focusing on one name at a time in a meaningful way.

QOTW: J has been awesome. She kisses my belly randomly and texts me now and then asking "how's baby?" - she thinks about him a lot! She regularly reminds the cats that we are having a pet human for them. Little do they know. She was extremely patient with my utter ueslessness first tri, picking up the slack around the house, not complaining when I didn't feel like making dinner, etc. While we are both nervous about things, we both have pretty good peace of mind that everything will just work out. She is opening a 3rd coffeeshop in June, so that is a little scary with the baby due in late August, but we're just trusting things to work out. She's going to be a good mama!

  • Same old pregnant here. Sigh. Due yesterday, and that came and went. I'm hopeful that this week will produce. Today is my last day at work, I think, so I'm going to really enjoy it. Wednesday we go in for a nonstress test and ultrasound. It will be our first ultrasound in over 20 weeks, so that is exciting.

We are just so ready and I want our baby here. Everyone is calling/texting/facebooking and I'm ready to have something happen. But, you can't hurry love, right? Unless it shows signs of distress, in which case we drug the heck out of it and demand am appearance. But no distress yet, thankfully! I'm getting huge. I swear, in the last four days I'm so, so much rounder.

QOTD: DW is perfect. I could not ask for a better support person; she takes care of me beautifully and picks up any slack I leave in my wake. And right now, I'm leaving a trail of terror. Love her so much. She just can't wait to hold our little baby; I hope I can give her a good one.

"Things separate from their stories have no meaning. They are only shapes. Of a certain size and color. A certain weight. When their meaning has become lost to us they no longer have even a name. The story on the other hand can never be lost from its place in the world for it is that place.” ― Cormac McCarthy, The Crossing

  • Hi All,

I have my maternal AFP this week. Still dealing w nausea and headaches. I'm only 15 weeks but my stomach looks more like 20 weeks. I still haven't told everyone at work and imagine they just think I'm fat.

QOTD my wife has been amazing. I usually cook and clean, but she has been doing everything for months now. And she's sweet and emotionally supportive too. I feel lucky.
