We are having our second child and want to use the same crib and up grade our first child to a bigger bed. We have already converted it into a day bed. He is 19 months so i'm not sure what size bed to get.  Any suggestions?

We're in the same boat. We just moved DS over this weekend, actually, to his new room. We kept him on the crib mattress for now (on the floor while he gets used to not being in a crib), simple because we haven't been able to decide on a mattress yet. But we're planning to get a twin. A twin is all he'll need for years to come, and once he does get to a point where we want to get him a double, he can pass the twin down to his younger sibling.
