We're flying to Denver in a few weeks and I'm not planning to take our regular stroller (City Mini GT), but I need to buy a lightweight umbrella stroller to take in its place. I don't want to spend a fortune, but would like a good quality one that we will be able to continue to use for awhile and for any future air travel vacations.
Any recommendations??? Or additional travel advice? My daughter will be 8 months old. I plan to wear her through security. Thanks!
Re: Best Umbrella Stroller for Air Travel
We got the Walmart Chicco back in 2008, solely for flying, thinking it would fall to pieces after a few gate checks. It is still going strong! We retired it in 2012, only because DS is too big for it. It will come out of retirement for #3 easily.
The bag it came in has a different tale. It got torn and super dirty from gate checks, so definitely use the bag!
We picked up a $50 something dollar First Years Ignite for a few plane trips recently and we have been pretty pleased with it. It's a full sized stroller with taller handles so you are not stooping over or kicking the back of the stroller as you tend to do with a compact umbrella stroller and it has a decent, supportive recline. The cons are that at 15 lbs or so, it is not an ultralight and trying to wrangle it one handed can be a little challenging if you are holding an infant in your hands. The other thing is that I'd try it out in the store because the lowest setting for the shoulder straps seems to be just right on my 16 month old and may be too high for a <1 yr old baby. They should be at shoulder level or below to prevent infants from wiggling out of the shoulder straps.
The First Years Jet is an even simpler and less expensive model that is a few pounds lighter, if weight is a priority.
I would also consider the Chicco C0.6/ Capri stoller
