Cigars from dad-to-be?

Wayyyyy old tradition for new dads to hand out cigars after the birth of their child.  DH and I are both vehemently anti-smoking but I always thought candy cigars were a cute idea.  I asked DH if he'd hand out candy cigars at his office after the birth but he said no.  Too tacky?  Anyone's husband handing out cigars (candy or not) after the birth?

Why is it important to you for your husband to hand out candy shaped like a cigar to his colleagues?  Honestly, that's just weird.

If you're very against smoking, why do they need to be cigars at all? I don't get it.

The men in MH's family are cigar smokers so I bought him an engraved cigar box with cigars to pass out to the family.

At my old job new dads usually brought in bagels or doughnuts for the office to celebrate a birth. Maybe you could try something like that instead.

I plan on buying H a nice cigar and some whiskey. If he wants to share, thats fine.

DH is handing out cigars, just for tradition's sake.  He's not a smoker, and neither are any of his family- but he decided that it is something he wants to do.

No cigars around here.  We are both vehemently anti-smoking.  Plus DH doesn't have a real office to hand them out in, because he is a student.

Dh did after DD1, but he works in an environment where his boss (also his uncle) smokes cigars and most of the employees are smokers. Although that has changed significantly since DD1 was born almost 4 yrs ago. This time he will not be handing anything out.
