Cloth Diapering

Recommendations for Washing Machine?

Hi everyone,

We are planning to cloth diaper our first baby in July and just bought a new home that we'll be moving into next month. We are looking at appliances, and I was hoping to get some input on what to look for in a Washer in relation to cloth diapering. I know we'll be using it for other things, but I want to make things as easy on myself as possible.

So...brand recommendations? Front loader vs. top loader? Settings to look for? Specific model that you own and love? Anything would help. I'm trying to research online, but it's overwhelming. Thanks ladies!

I would recommend a top loader with an extra rinse cycle.

  • Check out what each setting does. Ours has a heavy setting that included an extra rinse and spin making washes even easier.

  • If at all possible I would get two washers, a great HE machine for your clothes, and a used old top loader for your diapers. I only have a top loading HE Bravos from Maytag and it works fine, but if I had the space and two hook ups, that is what I would do.
  • I have a front loading GE washer that I love...it has a way to save your 'favorite' wash settings. I have mine set for a prewash, hot water and heavy soil wash, and an extra rinse. Then when DH does diaper laundry all he has to dois press the heart, add detergent, and press start!
