I have only ever used a Maya Wrap RS and a MT. I've "test drove" a Boba Wrap and I plan to get one for DS when he comes in June but I'm also looking to try a woven wrap.
I'll probably buy used, and have been watching the FB Swap recently. I'm looking for something under $100, that would be good for a "beginning wrapper". A couple brands I noticed that are in the bargain priced section of the swap are the Bali Breeze ones, Babyette Gauze, Osnaburg, Didymos, Gira Betula, Vatani, Natibaby.
I'm also wondering what size I should look for? I am 5'0", small framed/shorter torso (all my height, well what I have lol, is pretty much in my legs) and I would like to be able to have a good amount of carrying options (front, hip and back).
Re: Good wrap for a beginner
My advice is always to go for a thin to medium weight all cotton wrap that you think is beautiful
Size wise, it's based more on your shirt size than your height but if you are small framed a size 5 should let you do every carry.
Note that gauze wraps are very thin - great for heat - but are less forgiving of sloppy wrapping. They also aren't quite as soft as a woven. Not that they are bad...just different.

I agree with everything ncbelle has posted. One piece of advice I would give you is to pick a wrap you truly love & start with that. Wrapping takes practice & definitely has a learning curve. If you have a wrap that you truly love the look of, you are more inclined to use it & have more motivation to learn how to wrap.
Didymos, Natibaby, Ellevill brand have a million wraps out there....different fabric blends & thickness. The thing with Didymos, Natibaby, Ellevill is that they have so many different types of wraps out there that it is hard to say which one would work for you. These are all well known brands that have been around for years.
I also recommend Storchenweige Leos as first wraps because they are 100% cotton, practically indestructible, won't break the bank, & will take you from newborn to toddlerhood. Storch Leos don't have fancy designs or colors, but they get the job done & they do it well. Another brand of wraps that won't break the bank & are soft, moldable, & newbie friendly are Colimacon & Cie.
