Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Self weaning off of the bottle

LO gets forumula and breastmilk out of a bottle.   A few weeks ago, I dropped one bottle (because she was refusing to drink it) so now she breastfeeds when she wakes up and takes three six ounce bottles a day.   She has recently seemed to ramp up her solid intake and try to decrease her bottle intake again.  Does anyone have any experience with this type of self weaning?  She's too young to replace forumula with cows milk and although she eats a ton of solids I don't want her to lose the nutrients from breastmilk/formula.  I'm going to ask the doctor at our 9month appointment but that's not for a few weeks.

Re: Self weaning off of the bottle

  • I'm curious about this too. My 8 month old DS hasn't wanted his 2nd bottle of the day the past few days. I nurse him in the morning, then he gets breakfast an hour after that. But lately the bottle I used to give him after his first nap he has no interest in. Wondering if I am giving him too much for breakfast or if this is normal? We don't do solids for lunch yet

  • My pedi said food before one is just for fun. It should not replace ff or bf. if it seems to be, I'd cut back on the solids or time them after a bottle. There are nutrients in bf or ff that babies need that aren't as prevalent in solids.

  • According to me 6 month old baby can go for solid food but it should be along  with Brest milk which is really very important nutrients in baby?s food.
