Working Mom becoming a SAHM

I'm new to this board and have never posted. I was wondering if any other mom has become a stay at home after working for a while and how they coped and how their kid(s) coped?

My daughter will be 2 next week and I'm due July 2nd with my other daughter. My husband and I have agreed after the 2nd daughter I will quit my job and stay at home due to finances (I commute an hour each way, so with gas prices and daycare costs we figure it would just balance out if I worked).

My dilemma is that my daughter LOVES daycare. She is a very outgoing, extrovert girl and loves the social interaction. I never thought that I would feel guilty taking my daughter out of daycare and it has really been bugging me. I'm scared with all the upcoming changes, that this would really be hard on her.

Has anyone else had a similar situation? How did you transition you child into staying home?

Well, I've been a SAHM mom from the beginning and I suggest finding other mom friends and having as many play dates as you can. It's for your sanity. It won't be easy with a 2nd(I'm having my 2nd as well) , but it's a must. Maybe you can find a play group that meets regularly. Facebook is a great tool for that.

I transitioned to SAHM when DD was 15 month and she is very social.  I joined my local town club which is mostly comprised of SAHM but some dads too.  I go to the preschool events each months.  Also, i joined the Y and she got used to all the workers there in childwatch, so she gets kids interactions there.  Indoor gyms and also joining the local MOMs chapter is good.  I plan to put my daughter in preschool as soon as possible, so 2.7yrs for a couple days a week so she can get more structured interactions.  Take it slow.  It will take a while to adjust with a new baby.

I will be quitting work a month before baby is born. Due in the end of may. I stayed home with my son for his first year and then went back. I will stay home with this new baby boy but my son will be in daycare/preschool again in the fall. We are also moving and will be closer to other moms in my area so on our days off of school, we will spend time with them. I need to keep my sanity.

I only work parttime now and my son loves to be with me or at school. It is easy transition for the kids. I think it's a lot harder for parents.

My DD was in DC before I had DS. When he was born she was 18months and I kept her home with me on ML and then Grandmom watched both kids for a few months before they went to Daycare. She adjusted totally fine going from DC to home back to DC. The important thing for us was getting involved in activities with other kids.  We did a music class and a gym class and went to storytime and playdates and lots of playgrounds.  DD had a blast.  I know she loves DC, but she also loves being home with mom.  Good Luck with both of your LO's.
