Is this weird?

I had an anatomy scan, but is that different from a growth scan? I've noticed some ladies saying things like, "doctors say she's this many lbs" and I haven't had anything like that. I've not been given any idea of how big my baby is. Also, never have had a non-stress test. Are these only done when there is concern? I've had a problem free pregnancy with no health concerns or high BP or anything.. is that why I've had such minimal testing?

Re: Is this weird?

  • Growth u/s are only done when you are measuring (fundal measurement) outside the realm of "normal." NSTs are usually only done if there is some issue (like you haven't felt baby move), or at the very end - my OB does them around 40w +

  • Yeah, you probably wouldn't have them done unless there is a problem. I have them weekly due to iugr.

  • at my anatomy scan during the 2nd tri they told me how big she was. I then was sent for a growth scan this past week. The dr sent me to get an idea of how big she was because of it being 1 week prior to my due date and she was still so high. My dr also said he might send me for another growth scan this week due to her already being 8lbs 3oz. I have never gone for a nonstress test because I have never had any problems.

  • Minimal testing, ultrasounds, etc is a good thing.

  • I never had an NST. Not my last pregnancy, and not this pregnancy either. I've also never been told how big or small my baby may be. Actually, they say those measurements are very inaccurate, and that's why my doctor chooses to just keep his mouth shut about the size. Lol. My friends doctor told her she was going to have a huge baby, and her daughter ended up being a 6lb peanut.

Minimal ultrasounds and testing is a good thing! Don't worry.
