Another Sleep Training Question

I am planning on transitioning from the swing to the crib starting tonight. I've done some research on different methods, but I'm not sure which one to try. Which methods have worked for you?

Also, does it make a difference that LO already STTN in her swing? One method that I looked at said to use it if LO isn't STTN.

I know STTN will stop beginning tonight, but she's not use to getting any bottles during the night. I'm assuming I would just need to use a bottle as a last resort when she wakes up, right?

I'm so nervous about tonight. Any tips/advice would be appreciated.

Re: Another Sleep Training Question

  • I personally woyld not do any formal sleep training just because you are transitioning her, just give her a few days to get used to her new surroundings.  IMO, sleep training is to fix long term sleep issues, it sounds like your LO does not have those.

  • We moved from a bassinet to crib and not from a swing, but basically we started by moving the bassinet into the room beside the crib so she would get used to going to sleep and waking up in that room.   We did that for a week and the moved her into the crib and she never reacted at all.   She still doesn"t STTN but the crib didnt change her sleep patterns at all!   I hope you are equally lucky!
  • Just over 2 weeks ago, we transitioned from the RNP to the crib. I thought it was going to be worse than it really was because we went cold turkey, but we still do put him to sleep before he lays down for the night. The first night he ended up back in our room but after that he STTN! Occasionally he will wake up and cry but we just pat his butt and he goes back to sleep.

  • My son was 3months when we transferred from the swing to the crib. It didnt bother him at all, BUT he hasnt STTN since Dx. But i feel much better knowing he can sleep in the crib just fine all by himself in his own room. He wakes up twice currently just to eat at the same times every night. But his dr is ok with that because he is in a low weight percentile.

  • I would just go for it, because it has to happen at some point. Try it tonight and see how it goes, you may be surprised. If it doesn't go well, then maybe start doing naps in the crib and once that is going well try nighttimes again.

I would not give the bottle since she is already STTN and most likely doesn't really need it. I would offer a paci or soothe her back to sleep first, so she doesn't go back to wanting a MOTN feeding.
