Honestly the size range is a guess. DS was in diapers before the range because he is so thin and leaked out of them. You can check out the website for each brand or just check the boxes in the aisle.
I have only ever seen newborn diapers up to 8 pounds. Everyone has told me not to buy newborn diapers as they will give you some in the hospital.
Don't know what brand you've been looking at but Newborns go up to 10lbs as OP said. The advice I've had is to only get 100 newborns in advance since you don't know how big your baby will be, and to stock up on Size 1s.
OP is there any way you can just ask the person you got them from? I had to do that with my shower diaper cake diapers. If not, I guess just ballpark it based off what brand they look like they might be?

I've only seen newborn diapers up to 8 pounds as well....
I would skip the newborn diapers unless you think you're going to have a teeny tiny baby. Like someone else said they give you some at the hospital and you'll need the size 1's pretty quickly.
I think people are getting confused. Pretty much all newborn diapers go to 10lbs, but size 1's *start* at 8lbs. There is a 2lb overlap between the two sizes, so where you start is up to you.
Due with #5 April 22, 2015. It's a girl!!!!!
Yes it was planned, yes we know what causes that, no we are not on public assistance, and yes we will be getting cable after this.
