A Way to Practice Injections

Hi ladies - We have extra syringes/needles. Is it possible to practice in any way on a fruit or something before going for it the first time? Do you recommend this? Thanks for any tips.

I didn't, but Im a nurse and was doing my own shots.  If it makes you & dh feel more comfortable, I say go for it!  I'd recommend a peach.  the skin on an orange will probably be too thick.  lol if you want to have him practice on you without the meds, I can send you my spare diluent saline vials from my menopur.

Back when i did injections for my migraines the hospital had me practice with saline. Since its just salt water it didnt do any damage. This way I could stick myself. It took time.

exactly how do you do the shots??? I will be using Progesterone in oil 1 cc until told to stop.  How long have you guys had to do the shots (i know it may vary person to person) and where do you stick yourself?

We are going to start our first injections (ever, for IVF stims #1), and DH is planning to do the injection on my stomach.

I was really freaked out to give myself the trigger shot for my IUI's but honestly- it's not that bad. The anticipation of doing it is worse than just doing it. I never thought about practicing on a fruit first.

I don't see how it could hurt, just to get used to the feeling of handling the needle. But overall, while not entirely pleasant, I don't have a hard time with most subQ injections. IM, on the other hand, creep me out. Hubby gives them, and they cause me more stress than pain. Good luck; you'll do fine!

hey rosy, I did not have trouble after getting the first one out of the way (I'm an ER nurse so I guess I'm used to handling needles but I still hate them on myself). What I would suggest, seems to work good for me.... (Im assuming they are subcutaneous injections if your planning on your stomach) Is when I use the alcohol wipe to clean, I did it for like 30 seconds, kind of numbed the area, may not have really done anything physically but psychologically I think it did the trick! inject it at a 90 degree angle straight in and make sure you hold it for 5 seconds once you've pushed the dose of medicine in spit all gets in. If you have any other questions I'm happy to help!

If you're using a peach, you can just ue plain tap water.  Just don't inject yourself with that, lol!

If you're using a peach, you can just ue plain tap water.  Just don't inject yourself with that, lol!
