saying no and pretending to hit

do you just ignore it when your child tells you no? What about pretending to hit or kick you or DH? He knows he's not supposed to hit, so when I say pretend  I mean, he throws his hand out like he's going to hit us or with his foot to pretend to kick and then he says uh-uh or no!! I am the one that disciplines the most, DH is a softie and says, please don't make me send you to time out. I on the other hand just take him to time out, no questions...

Re: saying no and pretending to hit

  • My son does this too....If he starts to raise his hand or foot, I tell him very firmly that we use our words and do not hit or kick people ever.  If he hits, he gets one warning and a chance to say "sorry," and then he goes to time out.  I think it's starting to register, because he'll start to raise a hand and then put it back down.

  • I don't typically ignore back talk or mean behavior, even just pretend. I typically correct him immediately. The only time I ignore it it is if he's behavior seeking.
