My daughter is 6 and a half months and we started giving her homemade purees with brown rice cereal mixed with breast milk twice a day for 2 weeks now. And she loves it! She eats wonderfully. She finishes everything I give her. She isn't picky so far (Knock on wood.)
My question is, does anyone give their 6 month old solids 3 times a day yet? I think she would really enjoy it. I know breast milk should remain her primary source of nutrition and she still breastfeeds on demand. What do you think? What has been your experience?
Re: Solids 3 times a day?
It does not surprise me that all those who replied have just the one kid.
Food is fun until one. Solids three times a day especially at 6 months is really just adding on to your workload un-necessarily.
Yes, if you want to offer 3x a day, do what you want but it is absolutely NOT necessary.
We are on solids 3X a day and have been for since 6 months (He's 8 months now). Typically its:
- Yogurt or Oatmeal or Eggs for breakfast with puree fruit
- Toddle meal of either pasta/potatoes with puree or solid meat and puree fruit
-Whatever we are having for dinner with puree veggie or fruit
We also accompany all meals with some kind of animal cracker or yogurt or puffs to work on feeding himself.
He also normally has an early morning bottle, mid morning bottle, late afternoon bottle, and bottle before bed between 4-6 oz.
Hope that helps!
I also gave my DS 3 meals a day starting at 6 months. He has a great appetite (still does at almost 9 months) and I EBF him. He was even eating up to 4 oz a meal! I think you should follow your daughter's cue. If she is interested then you could give you a 3rd meal. My son's solid feeding menu was as follows and maybe it will help you:
Breakfast - Oatmeal with fruit
Lunch - Vegetable puree
Dinner - Chicken soup puree
Good luck!
