Daycare makes the transition at a year whether they are ready or not, my friends that had kids not in daycare made the transition around 15-18 months.
Since we didn't have much choice in the matter school started the transition and on the weekends we still let him nap twice a day to get extra sleep and after a month or so we started the one nap at home. At first we'd stretch his morning nap a little later and bedtime was moved up. For awhile he would fall asleep on the car ride home and was going to bed close to 6:00 because he was so exhausted from his day.
We made the transition to one nap a day at 15 months, and we just did it cold turkey. No need to try and hold onto that extra nap, it's just going to make it harder on everyone.
The three over two. They went cold turkey a week after their first birthday. Logan at two still naps and probably will until he goes to playschool. As I am writing this my five year old is currently napping. The five and seven year old flew a few days ago, through a few times zones and are still adjusting. They both napped for an hour yesterday and were in bed seriously early.

Good luck.
