cabin fever

Hi ladies. I've been on maternity leave for 6 weeks already because of some complications I was having. My DS and I are going crazy! I'm 37 weeks, 3 days pregnant. Everything is ready for baby, house is clean, freezer meals made. I have absolutely nothing to do today. And while normally I wouldn't complain, and enjoy the downtime, I need something to do with my 2yo. I feel like we've exhausted all of our options and he's getting very bored around the house.

Any suggestions on something fun we could do? Bonus points if it doesn't involve too much walking because I am carrying an almost 9lb baby and too much fluid so I'm rather ginormous. TIA

Re: cabin fever

  • Cardboard boxes. Make trains, planes, houses, whatever.

Bubbles outside. Have your kid chase them.

    Sidewalk chalk.

A bucket of water and a paint brush to paint the house, deck, sidewalk.

A "treasure hunt" in your yard. Little rocks, acorns, leaves. Glue them to paper.

Put baking soda in a pan, then have little cups of vinegar with food coloring. Use an eye dropper to put the vinegar into the baking soda.

  • Thank you! All little effort for my giant pregnant self! I feel so guilty, I want to enjoy these last few weeks with DS#1, but I'm so uncomfortable and miserable I don't want to do anything.

  • Also, hide and seek with his toys. Hide little toys all around the room, then sit and put your feet up and watch him find them.

Bonus points if you have plastic Easter eggs and put a small snack or toy in each one.

Have a friend come take him for a walk or to a playground. You could tag along to the playground and sit and watch.

    A bath with glow sticks.

    A bath with water colors.

I got it from Pinterest. DS loves it. We don't do it often, but tossing a few glow sticks inthe tub and shutting off the lights is great. Especially when I have a headache.
