Toddlers: 24 Months+

Hey.

I never post on this board so I'm not new to thebump just on this board.I'm a 21 year old STAHM and I have a almost 3 year old son. While I was pregnant with him I used to post on the tri boards. I also have a 15 month old daughter and another daughter due in May.

I actually came on here because my DS will be 3 in June. I was trying to figure out birthday party ideas. I will have a new baby at that time so I think it'd be better to have his party at home. It should be hot out by then so maybe a backyard party? What kind of activities do 3 year olds like? My DS has a tracheostomy(Trach) so a "pool party" wouldnt work or anything with a lot of water that can get in his trach. How long should a 3 year olds party last? As for food should I grill out or just get pizza and snacks? TIA

Re: Hey.

  • Pinterest has a million ideas ;)  that is where I would head for planning!

  • Cue in on what he likes. Last year for DD we had a princess party, this year we are planning pirates because she is OBSESSED. Find the one thing he really enjoys, and look for ideas around that on Pinterest. And with a new baby, I would definitely do it at home, but that's just me. Do whatever works for you guys.

On time, I would do 4 hour max. (Show up, eat pizza or BBQ, do cake, open presents, maybe a few games and then kick every one out haha). Depending on how many people you invite is how you should figure out your food situation. Usually if there are too many people, I get lazy and just do pizza. Cooking for a lot of people can be a pain, on top of decorating, running games and keeping children from getting too cracked out on sugar. Lol

  • DS just turned 3 in February. His party was Mickey Mouse theme. We had a bounce house in our backyard. His party lasted 2 hours, 3pm to 5pm. We served snacks and cake. DS was pretty tired by the end, I don't think he would'be lasted much longer. We kept it pretty small too, only 3 young kids plus 3 older cousins and half dozen adults.

  • Most of the kid parties we have been to at locations are 2 hours, but they don't open presents at the party. If you are doing it at your home I'd say do a 3 hour window. That's time to play, do cake and presents without overwhelming your LO (and yourself!).
