Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Play Structure @ Chick Fil A

Vent--We went to CFA last night, and let DS (21 mo) play in the play area for the first time. To the Mom of the 3 kids, aged 7,8, & 9 ish who were in there...please feel free to ignore the Age 3 and under sign and let your kids climb up the slide backward and nearly knock my toddler down while he's trying to play in an area set aside for his age.

Edited to Add--Please, for the love of Pete, don't turn my innocent vent into a political rant, either pro-Chick Fil A or anti-Chick Fil A. If that happens, I will DD. Politics and religion are not what this is about.

Re: Play Structure @ Chick Fil A

  • I hate when people let their bigger kids go crazy at playlands and not pay attention to the other kids.  Never should they go up the slides the wrong way!!

Although I do believe that the '3 and under' sign is just for the play area that that has stuff on the walls...not that actual stucture with the steps and slide.  That is for the older kids.  There is a sign on the door (at least in ours) that has the age limits, which is older.

  • I would be annoyed too. We go and play there all the time specifically because rarely are there older kids in there.
  • I'd be mad too! We went to the local park today, and the sign outside the entrance says it's for toddlers/pre-k, and after we are playing, these probably fifth-graders showed up and started running around playing with toy guns! So annoying!!! And I think at least one of their moms was there, not paying attention.

How did you end up handling it?  Did you point out the age limit sign to the mother?

  • I would have said something to the mom and if she didn't deal with it to the employee. It drives me batty when parents just let their kids run wild with no regards to smaller/other children.

  • I have no problem with reminding kids about playground rules. Be careful of younger children, go down slides, not up, etc. I have had good luck with children behaving once they realize there are much younger children around. I will say that the parents are no where around usually.
  • There are always big pre-teens hanging out in the playground area and it drives me crazy.  Often they aren't playing but just hanging out and taking up room.  I wish the managers would speak up to them.

  • I feel ya! We went and there was a birthday party going on and parents were just sitting and eating outside while there under 2yo children were playing by themselves!

  • This happens in our mall's play area all the time. It is so frustrating. Especially when you see the parents drop them off or sit there and play on their phone the whole time, not correcting any bad behavior. I so wish I was the mom that would say something but I am just not.

  • I hate when people don't use common sense or at least have the courtesy to tell their kids to knock it off. At DC, DS is often getting run over or pushed around by the older kids when they play outside.

Being a teacher, I would've totally kicked those kids out.

  • I get where you're coming from but do you know how nasty disgusting those things are?  Maybe I'm just a germ freak but I hear they never clean those things.

If I were you, I may have asked the kids to leave, asked the mom if she could reign in her kids, or ask management at Chik-Fil-A to maybe remind her?
