I have recently started the process of trying to have a baby on my own.. I am going to be 33 in April and have PCOS. I am not willing to wait! I want to be a mom so badly and do not want to take the chance of meeting someone to late in life. I have seen my RE and she did the genetic work up and everything came out great.. I stopped my anxiety medication and started thyroid med's as my THS was slightly elevated..
...I have no reached the exciting part of choosing my donor.... I was expecting it to be expensive just NOT as expensive as it is
I spoke with a friend a mine and asked if he possibly know's anyone who would be willing to donate for me, this way i can save some money... I would obviously go to a lawyer and have papers drawn up that he would NOT be involved in any way and i in return would not ask for child support or anything like that..
Any opinions? Has anyone done this before? I feel like I was going full speed ahead and now---BAM..Im stuck...All this before i even started my first IUI.... It's scary.. and on top of everything else im doing this alone..
I am feeling scared and overwhelmed.
Re: Just looking for some advice :)
I know that there are lawyers who specialize in this kind of reproductive rights law - just don't know any personally. I would say, try a google search, and then go talk to one. They probably would know what steps to take better than we would. Sorry I couldn't be more help to you - wish I had a name to give you. GL in your journey.
ETA: more words so I didn't sound like a heartless shmuck
<---- Try the Third-Party Reproduction board over in the list on the left side.
Good luck to you!
This. There was a lesbian couple on the LGBT board that used a known donor and had all their paperwork done up through the lawyers only to have the sperm donor decide that he wanted custody of the child 6 years later. The courts granted custody provided that he back pay 6 years of unpaid child support. If I recall correctly he backed out as he did not want to pay the child support and consequently does not have custody.
But the Third-Party Board would definately be of better assistance and knowledge.
