Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Driving myself crazy! Please help.

Lurking from the 3-6 month board, again! I will be joining you ladies in a week. But for now I am driving myself crazy looking for a Convertible Car Seat. Once I find one I like I check out the consumer reports. Of course, then I am right back to where I started.

Which car seat do you ladies recommend and why? Advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank in advance =)

I have a few.  I have three kids rear facing and just turned my one around into a convertible that is forward facing.

    I have:

2 Diono RXTs.  My five and a half year old just went forward facing in one.  My nephew who I have guardianship of is rear facing in one.

1 combi cocoro.  It has a lower weight and harness limit, but it works great for Eryn who is six months.  I have custody of a newborn and when she is about six months old I will pick her up one.

My seven year old is in a harnessed prosport.  It doesn't help you any.  It really depends on your budget, how long you plan to rear face, what type of car you drive and your budget.

Thank you! I will look into those. I don't really have a budget but I would like to keep her in it at long as possible. I drive a Ford Edge and my husband drives a Ford 150. I planned on buying the same one for each car. I feel like the bulkier-the safer...but I know that isn't entirely true =)

  • We just bought this one for DD, who is 6 months and 1 week:

    https://us.diono.com/en/car-seats/radian-r120

it's being installed this weekend and I would be happy to give you an update in a few weeks. There is a Facebook page called Car Seats for the Littles. You can post your baby's stats, your car and budget, and they will recommend a car seat for you.

  • I'm suprised so many people are moving their babies up to the convertable carseats already!  My LO is still in her infant seat and I plan to keep her in that until she's 1.  She's a tiny thing though...8 months and only 14.8lbs.
So happy for my BFPB Steff13914 and her new twins! Welcome to the world sweet babies:) Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • I'm about to move K into his probably within a month or so, but hes a big boy- 20 pounds at 7 months. I have a Safety First 3 in 1, and even though I haven't used it except to fit him into it a few times, I like it.

  • Our daughter is 27 inches and almost 18 pounds (DH is 6'6 and I am 6'). Her infant car seat's height limitation is 27 1/2 inches, so we don't have a choice. That's awesome you're able to get some more use out of yours.

I was just thinking the same thing! I won't move LO until the weight/height makes me.

  • We have the Evenflo Triumph LX and we like it so far.  DD seems to like it too.  It rated "excellent" for crash testing on Consumer Reports, the ratings on all the websites show that people liked it.  I like that it has knobs you turn to tighten the straps, rather than trying to pull them tight.  They are a little hard to grip while turning though.  I also like that it wasn't as expensive as some other seats.  I think we paid a little under $150.00.

  • We have Maxi Cosi Prias for both vehicles. It was sooo easy to install and feels really comfy. I also like the little head airbags too. It goes up to at least 70 pounds but I want to say it can hold an even bigger child. The cupholder is rubberized so DDs stuff stays in it. We love them!

Eta: we have them in a Chevy Trailblazer and Subaru Forester.

I'm in the same boat too.  I'm looking at the britax Marathon and Peg Perego at the moment.  I have to move him out of his infant seat as he is just about to outgrow his seat in height.

  • We have the Britax Advocate.  It took some getting used to (for all of us) but I really like it now and DS seems to be more accepting of it, lol.  I really like all the safety features on it.

We've had him out of his infant car seat for a few weeks now.  A month ago he weighed in at 21 pounds 11 ounces, and 29 inches long.  Besides the fact that he was only an inch away from the height limit (and that was without his helmet--with it, I'm sure he met the 30 inch mark), my back was KILLING me from having to lift him in and out of my Escape.
