Teething or something else? Help!

DD only has two teeth so I dont know if this is teething or something else but I'm at my wits' end.  The past two days whenever I put her down to sleep she just SCREAMS and she is usually a great sleeper.  It's like she's not tired at all (or maybe so tired she doesn't know what to do with herself).  Yesterday she was up from 1pm-1030 because she WOULD NOT SLEEP and so far today she got up at 7 am and it is 12:30pm.  Also she is refusing most food and bottles (though I did get a good amount in her today).  She does not have a fever.  With her previous teeth she did not act like this at all.  Does anyone have any good advice?  I'm starting to go a little crazy.

Re: Teething or something else? Help!

  • During the couple of times when I was not sure, I gave LO Advil just in case.  Usually it helped, and within a few days I noticed a tooth poking through.  I think there was one time it didn't make a difference, so I moved to sleep training (fun!).

  • My DD Is about to get her 3rd tooth and she is 13 months. She is being a little more picky what she eats, and I think a little more cranky.
    Could it be her ears?
It's so tough because they can't tell us what's hurting them, good luck!

  • This REALLY sounded like my 13 month old the night before last.  But she did have a high fever and runny nose.  I had no clue it could be an ear infection but after having a fever and NOT sleeping for a few days I took her in to the ped. and immediately they diagnosed an ear infection.

So, with that said I know your LO doesn't have a fever but the not sleeping at all is what the nurse told me was the tell tale sign of an ear infection.

Not sure that helps, but I suppose it could also be teething.

  • I was going to suggest an ear infection, too. If the ear hurts, it might hurt to suck on a bottle or swallow.

Will she fall asleep sitting up, like if you take her for a ride in the car?
