My OB recommended to stop BCPs 3 months prior to TTC and use an alternate method. With DS, I got KU 1 cycle after discontinuing BCPs (we failed to use an alternative method) but I'm not naive enough to think it'll be that easy again!
Anyhoo, I was just curious to know how long you were off BC prior to TTC, or if your OB recommended something different.
Have a fabulous Thursday ladies, and remember - it's less than 2 weeks until spring!!!
Re: Off BC prior to TTC
I went off the pill at the end of April in 2011. We started TTC right after, fully knowing it could take a while. We got the BFP in the beginning of November when I was already 7 weeks along (so a conception date of the end of September).
I have very irregular periods so I could never track, we just did the "sex every other day" thing (For the most part) until it happened!
I have the Mirena now, and my doctor told me to get it removed 6 months before we activaly start TTC #2 (If/when that may be) so that my uterine wall can thicken back up.
BFP: 10/27/2011 | EDD: 6/30/12
DS born 6/28/12 via C/S
TTC #2: September 2018
Me: 36 | DH: 39
Mirena removed 9/13/2018 after 6 years
BFP 11/11/2018 | MC @ 5.5 weeks on Thanksgiving
July 2019 - Diagnosed with Secondary Unexplained IF
August 2019 - 2.5 mg of Letrozole = Never Ovulated so Trigger and IUI were cancelled
9/30/2019 - IUI #1 (5 mg of Letrozole + Trigger) = BFP but Betas showed CP @ 4 weeks
10/28/2019 - IUI #2 (7.5mg of Letrozole + Trigger) = BFN
11/25/2019 - IUI #3 (7.5mg of Letrozole, Trigger + Crinone after IUI) = BFN
12/24/2019 - IUI #4 (7.5mg of Letrozole + Crinone after IUI) = BFN
1/24/2020 - IUI #5 (50mg of Clomid + Trigger + Crinone after IUI) = BFN and an Ovarian Cyst
3/2/2020 - Taking a break to reset/NTNP
11/1/2020 - At peace with where things are in life and are no long actively TTC. Whatever happens will happen and it will all be okay.
I had my Mirena taken out about 10 days ago and we plan to TTC #3 starting in June.
Our "other" method is pull-out but we would be fine with a pregnancy a little early. That being said, I am not a fertile mertile by any stretch. My DD was an IVF/ICSI baby. DS was a happy surprise when DD was 8 months old. TTC this time should be interesting because I have no idea if pregnancy will happen or not and I won't be doing IF treatments again. I have DOR and haven't had my FSH or AMH tested in 4.5 years.
To answer your question, I had my IUD taken out 3 months before we plan to TTC.

No more TTC for us. We are done, and at peace, as a family of 4.

Ideally we'd like to have LO#2 sometime in early 2014. This means I should pull the goalie, like, now. Last time I was off BCP for about six weeks before I conceived. I really wouln't mind being KU now, except that I'm thinking of looking for another job this spring. I don't want to sport a bump (or even be KU for that matter) if I find another job I really like etc.
I had been on BCPs steadily for 11 years before then and had a regular AF five weeks after going off them. I know this is more the exception than the norm. Still I'd recommend using some form of BC until you're READY to be KU. I don't like BCPs (understatement) and it wouldn't be the end of the world if I got pregs now. However, I'm going to hold off until I have a better idea of what I want for my career in the near future.
This post came at the perfect time for me! Thank you for posting!! I debate going off them every day. DH wants me off.....I just finished a pack today, and am ready to open another one.....tough as it may be.
Have mirena in now. Will ttc immediately after removing it. Most of my friends who have had mirena get pregnant immediately after taking it out.
