So I stood up and felt a small gush but immediately had to go the bathroom so I thought it was just me peeing myself. But then I felt small trickles about 1 minutes later and again 15 minutes later... I can't tell by the smell if it is my water breaking or just urine... UGH! My mom and grandmother are flying into NYC from California TONIGHT so they get here first thing in the morning. I REALLY hope this isn't my water breaking (I also left some stuff left undone at work... I know it doesn't matter but I just want to be completely ready, which I guess I never will be...)
Anyone have thoughts or similar experiences?
Re: Is this my water breaking or Incontinence?
Yes! That exact thing happened to me on a Friday night--and I delivered that Sunday morning (4.5 weeks early!). I didn't actually go in to check it out until late afternoon on Saturday because I was so sure it was just me peeing myself. But I did feel like I would have to go to the bathroom when it happened/just after it happened, and it was just so weird and would happen at random times throughout the day (not a slow trickle). My guess is that baby's head blocks the small hole, and when he/she moves, more fluid gets out.
My baby turned out fine, even though I waited so long to get in. Doctors are just concerned about infections--they will test you with a paper which will turn a certain color if it is amniotic fluid. If that is positive or inconclusive, they will look inside you for "pooling fluid" which means it's obviously not just urine. My body didn't go into labor on it's own (some womens' bodies will go into labor if their water breaks, but it may take a while), so they had to start a pitocin drip eventually.
Good luck! Keep us updated!
And I totally understand the undone stuff at work thing. I'm a high school teacher and spent two hours of labor typing lesson plans for my sub--you just don't think it will be a month early!
I went to the hospital the following day (with my grandmother and mother intown, straight from the airport) and sure enough it was my water that had broken (so if you're reading this and you only feel a trickle and not a gush - call your doctor!).
Everything was fine and my daughter was born by c-section after I wouldn't dialate past 1 (even after pitocin and cervidel).
