Swim lessons

Are you taking lessons with your LO? Ours start next month. So excited but also dreading being in a swimsuit.

Used to rock the itty bitty bikini. Definitely not appropriate anymore but that leaves me with no suit right now. What to buy? I'm not into one pieces and I tried a tankini and the top was too long (covered most of my bottoms which made me look like I didn't have bottoms on) - which was surprising because I'm tall. Anyway...what type of bathing suit do you wear? Our lessons will be at our gym.

I know some say, 'if you've got it, flaunt it', but does having it mean you've lost all your baby weight? I've got about 9lbs to go to achieve that. Tummy has no stretch marks and is decent but not totally flat. I never did public pools before baby so the thought of doing this now gives me anxiety. I'm super excited about making these memories with DD so I'm going to get over myself and just do it!!

Re: Swim lessons

  • I think regardless of what your body is like, you should wear an appropriate suit to children's swim lessons.

  • Jcrew has some addoorable one pieces and fuller coverage two pieces. I guess I would be hesitant to do itty bitty bikini at a kids event... Eh, even if I did have the body, haha
  • I should clarify, there's NO way I'm considering wearing a bikini like I used to. Heeeeeeell no! Haha. I'm just trying to decide if I'll be more comfortable in a more modest cut bikini (since I've only ever worn a bikini), or if I should move into a tankini....

  • I would look for something with a secure top. I see you BF, I do as well and my daughter tends to grab at my breasts. I would rather the whole swim class not see my breasts.

Same here especially at the first class when dd was clinging to me for dear life. I wear a onepiece with swim shorts and honestly most moms at the classes are in one pieces,

  • I wear an awesome one piece from Unique Vintage that I love. All the other moms in our class also wear either a one piece or a tankini. I have to say I'm jealous though, I'm 20 lbs. under my pre-pregnancy weight, and I still won't bare my stretch mark covered tummy with all it's extra skin.
  • I think you got a bad tankini last time.  Try another one.  I think you can find one that fits right.

I have to say that it makes me really sad that society makes a woman who only has nine pounds to lose that self-conscious about her body.  I have a lot more than you to lose, and I'll be wearing my tankini, although I too will be a little self-conscious.

  • Thanks ladies!! I plan on continuing the hunt for the right suit. I appreciate the support.

I'm debating swim lessons. I could do one class for the baby and then the class right after for my 3 year old but that means my husband would have to come as well and he might not want to.

And I see no problem with a bikini but I would worry about little hands pulling it down. I guess that could happen with any kid of bathing suit though.

  • I'm taking my DS to swim lessons next month also.  I have a 1 piece, I'll probably just wear.  I suppose I should make sure it fits still.  What is your LO wearing, just a regular bathing suit and swim diaper?  I'm not sure if I should get him a swimming shirt to wear with his swimming shorts, just not sure how slippery he will be and I don't want him to slip out of my hands.
  • We are taking one.  It is all moms and babies so not too worried about my PP suit

DD has a one piece suit. Swim shirt might be nice though. Not sure how cool/warm the water will be. I bought swim diapers for her lessons.
