Lotus Birth

Just heard about this today. It freaks me out. Anyone else heard about this or know anyone who's done it?

  • Not cutting the cord. Carrying around the cord and placenta until it naturally falls off. Gross right?

  • That's gross. And I see no benefit to that. What do they claim the benefits are?

  • If that's your thing, more power to you.  No judgements here.
  • Yeah... I always say I'm having a suedo lotus birth because we aren't going to cut the cord until after the placenta is delivered... but I don't get the point of walking around with it for 2+ weeks...

I’m a modern man, a man for the millennium. Digital and smoke free. A diversified multi-cultural, post-modern deconstruction that is anatomically and ecologically incorrect. I’ve been up linked and downloaded, I’ve been inputted and outsourced, I know the upside of downsizing, I know the downside of upgrading. I’m a high-tech low-life. A cutting edge, state-of-the-art bi-coastal multi-tasker and I can give you a gigabyte in a nanosecond! I’m new wave, but I’m old school and my inner child is outward bound. I’m a hot-wired, heat seeking, warm-hearted cool customer, voice activated and bio-degradable. I interface with my database, my database is in cyberspace, so I’m interactive, I’m hyperactive and from time to time I’m radioactive.

  • Apparently it take 3 to 4 days to fall off. And it's supposed to be a spiritual and emotional thing. Not really a health benefit. Still, it gives me the willies.

  • We are doing delayed cord cutting too! But I don't see a physical benefit to lotus birth for me or baby.
  • We're doing delayed cord clamping, but for me and my family, I feel a lotus birth is unnecessary.  But for anyone who wants to do that and feels it's the right thing, then they'll get no judgment from me!

  • I have NEVER heard this !! I don't think I would want to deal with anything hanging out 4 days after child birth. People try some interesting things !

  • I'm doing delayed cord clamping (probably 10-15 min) but lotus birth seems pointless and strange.  Even cats chew off the umbilical cord.  With lotus birth you keep the placenta attached and store it in a bowl, wrap it up in cloths, put herbs and stuff on it.. lol

    Here's a website about it - https://www.sacredbirthing.com/lotus-birth

  • I saw it in a movie with Jennifer Aniston.

We're doing delayed clamping but that just sounds like such a hassle lol.

  • I'd always wondered what that was, interesting. I'd be surprised if you find anyone on here who's done it, but there's got to be a blog somewhere by someone who has.  Try offbeatmama :-)
