Shower Registry Question?

We are due in June with our first baby...and my DH and I just completed our registry.  We registered at both Target and Babies R' Us.  This is where my question comes in.  Did you register for overlapping items if you registered at more than one place?  For example...did you register for a stroller at both Target and Babies R' Us...or did you just pick the one you liked best from one place or the other?  I know it sounds kind of silly...but I don't NEED 2 strollers or 2 carseats...lol.  But at the same time, if a person goes to shop at one or the other with a particular item in mind, I'd like for them to have options.  Thoughts on this?  Or am I just over thinking? lol

Re: Shower Registry Question?

  • I personally don't like it when I see items on 2 registries because I'm never certain if the parent needs 2 or if it's a mistake, so I just avoid the duplicates all together unless it's something they obviously need several of (like diapers or bibs).

If you do this, you need to keep close tabs on your registry and delete the extra items after people purchase them at one store, and this can be hard because most people go shopping the night before or morning of the shower unless they're planning to ship an item to you.

  • I would choose the one you like more.  You wouldn't want the awkwardness of opening both car seats (or any other overlapping items) at your shower - obviously one of them will be exchanged.

  • Thank you ladies!  This was exactly what I needed to know!  That's pretty much what I thought as well, and DH and I had discussed and just weren't sure what the "proper" thing to do was.  Good old etiquette!  You try so hard, and sometimes it just gets ya! :)

  • I don't know when your shower is, but keep an eye on your Target registry.  I noticed some items went out of stock before my shower and I had to scramble to find replacements (particularly the crib mattress).  We started registering pretty early on so that's probably why, but watch your list, just in case.

  • I personally think it would be more of a hassel for you to have to return a duplicate item such as a stroller or car seat..
  • A family member recently registered for duplicate items at multiple stores.  It sucked as a gift giver because I didn't know which one she really wanted.  I ended up giving a gift card and letting her get something on her own.

I've never heard of anyone doing that, especially on "big ticket" items like car seats and stuff.  Honestly, from a guest point of view, I would give the side-eye to the MTB that did that.  I think you're coming from a good place, but I would scale back to the registry to reflect only the things you want - without unneccessary duplicates.

I agree. The only thing I had overlapping on mine was clothing sizes. I picked out different things for both but tried to cover all the sizes for clothes on both. I also figured I wouldn't get any evil eyes from that since people love to buy baby clothes anyway.

I would do the same with your BRU registry as well. I've had several items become unavailable for whatever reason since I first started my registry there.
