Pregnant after 35

XP - July 2013:Intro and Seeking Bra Recommendations

Hello there!

Been lurking for awhile and have finally mustered up to the courage to intro/post.

A little about me.  First pregnancy.  Currently 35, will be 36 when my LO is born.  Due July 21st with a little girl!  So am half way through my pregnancy @ 20 weeks.

Now for my question:  I am looking to buy a couple of new bras to support well my new boobs.  I have a sports bra that works well when I want a lot of support for being active, but I am looking for something more supportive than my current Victoria's secret, but more for everyday wear.

Have any of you found some great brands/styles that you love?  FWIW - went from a solid "C" to a full "D".

  • Welcome and congratulations! Everyone here is very nice and super supportive! I am much smaller chested than you and have been fine with Genie Bras and sports bras, so maybe someone else can chime in on the bra question, but congrats again on your July baby girl!

  • My oldest is a girl born in July!  Welcome to the board.  I wouldn't waste money on a nursing bra until after the baby is born (if you plan to BF) because believe it or not, they will get bigger!  I would think most brands with a good underwire, wider straps, and more coverage would give good support.  You may want to check out an outlet if they have one near you.  They usually have several brand name stores (Jockey, Hanes, Bali, etc.) where you can get them for a deal.  I wouldn't want to spend a lot because it's definitely a transitional size at this point.  GL with your pregnancy!

  • Thanks to you both!

Good to know I am still "growing".  I love the idea of going to an outlet because, you're right, I do not want to invest a lot of money.  Will look around for one in my area.

  • Go without one.  That's my recommendation.  I'm too big now to fit into any bras that I have.  They fit in the cup, but not around me anymore.  My underwire digs into me and leaves welts and red marks.
  • Welcome to the board.... I cant help you with the bra thing as I am a former a cup exited with my b's

Thank you for the opinion.  That's sort of the camp I was in, but a friend mentioned that I should seek out supportive bras to prevent post pregnancy sagging and freaked me out a bit.  If I can't find something comfy, I just may go without!

Very nice of you to say hello.  Love your pics!

  • Welcome! I'm due a week after you.
ETA: About the bras...I'm in the same boat. I was C cup and now a D...I got up to an E cup while BF last time. I'll probably start at target and then look at dept stores if needed. There is no way I can go braless. I also don't recommend nursing bras at this point.

This!  I have been using the Genie bra after seeing several suggestions from other ladies and I am 40DD/E so the larger size in the Genie bras works great for me.  They are really comfortable and will give you some room to grow.  I bought a few MM bras and started popping out of t hem a  couple months later which may happen for you too so I would definitely try the Genie bras.  I got mine at Burlington Coat Factory (3 for $20) one of each shade come sold together.

Thanks for sharing your experience.  Helpful to hear.  Seems like I will have to go try a few out at discount stores while checking out a few specific that have been recommended.

Thanks for the tip on where to get them!

  • I went from a B to a D.  I was busting out of my old bras, and wanted a basic comfortable full-coverage bra.  I got a few Maidenform T Shirt bras (I think they are called one fabulous fit) at Kohl's.  I watched for a few weeks to get a good sale price though.

Thanks for responding - yup, looks like I will be hitting Kohl's and other discount stores this weekend!

  • I bought 1 new bra while pregnant and also bought some extenders that worked a little.  My baby is now 5 months old.  Since he was a preemie I had to pump starting at day 1 and he didn't start to really breastfeed well until he was about 4 weeks old (37 weeks gestation).  I mostly wear sports bras and I am at least a DD. I have no idea really how big I am since pregnancy & bf because I'm too scared to find out!  ;)  If you're going to be pumping in addition to breastfeeding you'll want to take that into consideration too.  Initially all I used for pumping & nursing bras were cheap sports bras from Target and I cut small holes in them so I could pump.  Not super supportive but unless I'm super active it's fine. There is a specialized pumping bra out there called Simple Wishes that is super adjustable. I honestly found it pretty uncomfortable (feels like wrapping a big band of fabric around my chest) but it does have good reviews. I still wear my hole-y sports bras most of the time but with the way straps on a sports bra are so close to the neck they show with almost every shirt I wear. Since I work in a professional setting I can't really have that so what I am now doing is I bought 2 of Medela's pumping bras (size XL) and wear it under an inexpensive Target nursing bra.  The Target nursing bra I got is pretty comfortable, not very supportive but I'm not exactly very active between work & baby.  Good luck & congratulations!
