from reviews i've read and people who've used them, they seem ok. i'm not opposed to it. the only thing i'd probably spend a bunch on is if i were planning to go the convertible carseat route where it grows with your child.. otherwise, i've heard as long as the reviews and safety is good, brand doesn't really matter.
but it really depends on what is important for you. i know that friends of mine didn't want graco or chicco or baby trends because of the material or something..
The Graco Snug Ride is always one of the top-rated car seats, and is much more affordable than the Chicco KeyFit and Brittax models. I have heard that the travel systems can be kind of cheapy, but you can still use the car seat with another brand of stroller.
I had a baby trend infant seat with DS1 and hated it! He outgrew it by 6 months but I was ready to switch him anyway! With DS2 we got a graco snuggle ride 30 and LOVE it! It's actually really light and he is 7 months and still had room to go!
I have a Graco infant car seat and we just bought two Graco convertibles car seats and I like them just fine. Stroller is another story....I bought a Bob stroller and love it and would never use anything else. I felt their strollers were (hate to say it) dorky, cheap, plastic things.
Yep. I'm of the school that every car seat/baby gear/etc has to pass the same tests. We had a graco infant seat and stroller for DS. WE have him in a Britax convertible now, but I see no issues with Graco.
We also had the SnugRide for DD and will be using it again. It is a great seat. I also used the Graco stroller frame and loved it.
Went with a Chicco KeyFit for an infant seat which was a blessing in disguise because we ended up needing a seat to take our not even 5 pounder home but we have a Graco convertible seat...we (and DS) love it.
Honestly, just do your research both online, in books (Baby Bargains is a great one), and in the store. Go with what you like and what works best for you.

We got the Snugride 22 because it was so light and loved it. I do regret going with a travel system, because even though I used the stroller a ton...it was locking up and DH broke the buckle within 6 months. That being said, I don't think I would of had any better luck with another stroller brand in that price range...our Chicco keyfit umbrella is barely 4 months old and already the catch to keep it closed when folded doesn't work anymore. You get what you pay for when it comes to strollers.
2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14
I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
Every carseat must undergo and pass the same safety standards, but each brand has different features that make them appealing to different people and lifestyles. The cost was high, but I have been exceptionally pleased with my Chicco KeyFit travel system and the Britax Marathon convertible carseat. To me, they fit our needs and main car the best, plus they seemed more comfortable for baby than others we reviewed.
My best advice is to go to a store to really look at them and test them out (to the best of your ability pre-baby). I would also consider your uses and needs.
