Thanks, I was under impression it wasn't until 2yrs old. I have him watching me and using his tooth brush without paste to get the idea of it but he has no interest in it.

A question for all of you doing finger-brushing... my kiddo is a little younger than yours (just about 10 months), and we've been finger-brushing nightly for the past couple of weeks. however, when i say "finger-brushing," i mean that i stick my finger with the silicon brush in her mouth, she bites it, i swish it around, she bites it some more, she laughs at me, she turns her head, and we're done. i can't say i'm really doing all that much "brushing," if you know what i mean.
6 months or when they start solid food. 2x a day with baby toothpaste or probably just water at first is ok i think. They should go to the dentist by 2, maybe that is what you were thinking of?
We started at 10 months, when she got her first tooth. However, we haven't introduced toothpaste yet (we're following the recommended age on the flouride-free toothpaste which is 18 months).
Yep, within the first tooth age range, whatever that may be for your LO. My DD goes to a pediatric dentist (first visit at 16m) and he recommends that the child can do the morning brushing but that the parent should always do part of the evening brushing to ensure a good job is done. DS will probably go for his first visit around 16-18 months also.
Re: brushing teeth
I started brushing DS's teeth with a finger brush at like 4 months old. Now, we use a real toothbrush and toddler toothpaste.

am i doing it right?
I introduced about 18 months. dD is now brushing her own teeth, and surprisingly well!
before that, I just wiped them with a piece of gauze.
