Hmmm....flowers? Or maybe a gift card to a grocery store? I really have no idea. When my grandma died a couple weeks ago people sent flowers and brought over tons and tons of home cooked meals.

That is so thoughtful! My Dh's grandma is very ill and we are in a similar situation, 9 hrs away. I will be following this thread for ideas. Im sorry for your loss.
is it tacky to send mom a edible arrangement or something? Starbucks card is great but if she's busy doing stuff it's nice to have actual food at your house. (lol, not that a fruit basket is "food" but whatever...)

Mil is very practical, so if I sent flowers I would send flower starts. Bouquets aren't her thing.
Iam so sorry! My Grandma passed away in January, and it is really hard. I think a gift care package is a wonderful idea. I know some people from my moms work all chipped in, and paid for a cleaning service to come over to my grandmothers house after everything was moved out, and clean the house so my mom could sell the house. They also bought my mom and my aunt gift cards to restaurants
Condolences to the whole family. Do you have a picture of MIL and her mom that she doesn't have? Or the kids with great gram? How about including a gift card for online food delivery (like peapod) or a restaurant in the area or edible arrangements in case she doesn't feel like cooking? Or send a favorite indulgence like dove chocolate? Kleenex? I think the pictures and card will mean a lot to her on their own though.
Thanks ladies. DH'/s gramma wasn't the nicest. I've only met her twice in 5 years. She was pretty mean and an addict. So DH doesn't seem to care. She didn't like him and his sister growing up cause they came from a "broken" home.
It's kind of an odd situation because my H has no good memories with her so he only cares that his mom is upset.
She lives in a tiny town so I'm going to call the diner that she eats at and see if I can pre pay for her dinner.
I called the saloon down the street from her and bought a gift card, so when she goes to have lunch/dinner it will be paid for.
Gonna get a box of things the kids make for her, and a Starbucks card. Maybe some bulbs for her yard.

I like the arms sending a hug, that's cute.

I wish I could send her some homemade meals
She loves scrapbooking. Maybe I'll get her a cricket cartridge and some stamps
