Calling Nurses!

Grants last 3 TSH levels have been high: December 5.5, January 5.0, and March 5.4 . The rest of his thyroid numbers were perfectly normal. I know for little kids his age, 1 year, can have normal tsh levels up to 6.2. I know that normally they should be below 4.2.

Here is were it gets tricky. Before we got the last tsh results our endo didn't want to treat him for hypothyroidism, but Now she does. Does that mean although it is normal to have tsh levels between 4.2 and 6.2, if you fall in that range several times that you do have a thyroid issue?

I hate to treat him for hypothyroidism because we are committing ourselves to 2 years of treatment before we could take him off the medication and check to see where his thyroid function is then.

Right now we are in the process of setting up a gtube surgery. So, I wonder if nutrition plays a role in thyroid function and if I should wait to treat him. Or treat him for the thyroid and wait on the gtube. The endo didnt think that his high tsh would affect his appetite.

Obviously I will be talking with the doctor tomorrow about my concerns, but I like to know others input especially if they have knowledge in this area.
