My 9 month old just started crawling and when I won't let him get into things he throws a fit and whines. He also doesn't seem to listen to the word no. Anyone else experiencing this with their 9 month olds?
All the time, I pick him up to redirect and he cries for about a min or two and then stops. When I say no, he looks at me with this cute smile but that is not the reaction I am looking for. Must be a stage.
DD is almost 11 months and the tantrums are really amping up now. Today I noticed she was throwing little fits when her snack cup was out of Cheerios. Like seriously? I'm a behavioral therapist for young children and I can't believe I'm using my work techniques at home already.

Yeah, my 3 year old still doesn't seem to understand the word no. My nine month old just gives me a cute smile when I say it. The best way to handle them at this age is to redirect, redirect and then redirect again. GL!

I have the same job as you and I feel like I use this stuff on my kids a lot! Ha ha. I guess our work really never ends!
Yes. 9 month olds don't understand the concept of no. Just keep working on ways to redirect. There are lots of resources online and good ideas to be had if you do a quick Google search.
My son decided a couple weeks ago that electrical cords were his best friends. We were spending ALL day pulling him back, dealing with the tantrum, rinse, repeat. We ended up buying a superyard. It came today and I. Love. It.

Re: 9 month temper tantrums
Yup, and it doesn't stop as far as I can tell.
It gets super fun when tears start streaming down their face when you tell them no.

My LO throws the hugest fits sometimes, especially when we try to strap him into his carseat or highchair.
He also thinks it's funny when we tell him no. We're in trouble. lol
