Teething

Hey!

Just wanted to get some teething advice.  My little guy has his 2 bottom teeth and he was not fussy at all with those 2.  He seemed as though he literally woke up one morning and had a tooth and about 2 weeks later he got the second one.  He gave no indication he was teething other than the large amounts of drool :)  This time however is a different story.  He is getting his top 4 teeth in at the same time and is miserable.  I've tried tylenol and teething tablets and they seem to help a little bit.  The teething tablets seem to help him atleast get enough relief to sleep for a little bit at a time.  Just wondering if anyone has tried baby orajel.  I saw in Target that they have one that is "natural".  If you have tried it, did it seem to help?  Did you use anything in combination with each other?  Prolly a dumb question...but I feel so bad for little guy, I just want to make him as comfortable as possible.  Thanks for any suggestions or recommendations!

Re: Teething

  • We got the natural and he hates it, I also think because it does numb the whole mouth he seems to have issues eating his food.

  • We have used the Orajel without benzicaine in to so it doesn't numb the mouth.  The main ingredient is camomile I think, so it is just something to calm them.  I think it helps, enough to get him back to sleep anyway.  We would give motrin or tylenol and then some fo the orajel.

For daytime relief, we would wrap an ice cube in a wash cloth and secure it with a hair binder for LO to suck on (wet it first so it doesn't stick to their lips).  DS1 loved it, DS2 doesn't care for the cold.

  • My ped told me to stay away from orajel because it could cause seizures. If stick to baby Tylenol

  • We tried everything.  The only things that work are Hurricane Gel (ask your pharmacist for it) and their amber teething necklaces.  Since we got the necklaces we very rarely need any gel, tablets or even cold cloths.  The necklaces really do work.
