Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Tell me what to do!

My dd wakes every morning at 5, still tired and wants to be held. She still wants to sleep just not in crib. She takes a two hour nap during the day and is ready for bed at 8 on her own.  I've tried keeping her up later doesnt work:). I let her cry this morning but that lasted a full hour til time to get up. Then she passed out once I got her up even without being held. She is 16 months, what would you do?

Re: Tell me what to do!

  • Mine did something similar around 11 months.  Crying it out is the only way.  You just have to force yourself to do it every day.  For mine, it took four days of crying.  On the 5th, she cried a little and went back to sleep.  On the 6th, i heard her making noise but no crying, and she slept a bit.  But no later than 6 am.  Doc said thats probably the best i could hope for.  But around 13 or 14 months, she started sleeping 8 to 8 with a one hour nap during the day.

  • Thank you! I'll just hold strong til 6 each morning which is wake up time anyways.

  • But I can't sleep, I'm a super light sleeper and I never am able to go back to sleep. So it's not a win win, wish it was that easy bc I've tried.

You might want to try putting her to bed earlier. I know it sounds counter intuitive but it can actually help wake-up time move later.

    this.
