What would SIF do?

I got my BFN this morning and we're now heading into cycle #20. January and February held IUI's #1 & #2 for us. Now, we're at the point where our office is letting us choose moving on to injectables or doing a third IUI with just letrozole.

I'm completely torn over this and am not sure which will be best for us(I know it's only one more month if we choose Letrozole #3, then we would move on to injectables cycle #21).

I guess what I'm torn over is this: Wasting a month and roughly $800 on IUI/Letrozole #3 when it's going to give us the same results as the past two months(probably) OR throwing away an extra cycle opportunity since I don't know if we'll be able to continue treatment after our few injectable cycles(money reasons).

Injectables, as you all know, will include many more monitoring appts and bloodwork, not to mention the cost of medication and the....uncomfortableness of them, plus our 3 hr drive to the RE.

SO, if it were you, would you try letrozole/IUI one more month? Or would you cut your losses and move full steam ahead with injectables?

Re: What would SIF do?

  • If it were my choice, I'd go to injectibles.  Our RE gave us significantly higher odds on an injectible cycle.  In terms of time efficiency and odds of success, I'd go that route-- hoping that it works despite the higher financial costs and extra committments to appointments. Wishing you luck in whatever you choose.

Really? What did they tell you? Because the NP today told me the odds of success aren't any higher than what we're doing currently(12%-18%), but the hope is with more follicles instead of 1-2 that we might have more "targets to hit"

  • With our diagnosis, the RE gave us a sliding range of success starting with TI (2%) to IUI naturally  (5%) to IUI with Clomid or other meds that I can't remember (12%) then IUI with injectibles (23%).

  • So sorry for your BFN. If it were me, I'd probably give it one more go with the letrozole. I may be a bit biased though, as DS was conceived on our 3rd clomid with iui cycle! Good luck with whatever you choose!
