I just created my amazon registry on Friday. I'm using amazon for the bigger items and BRU for the small stuff. I made sure that most the items I chose were sold directly by amazon since they always seem to be cheaper than the third party vendors and thought it might be easier if I needed to return something.
The high chair that I just registered for on Friday is now $30 more and is no longer sold directly by amazon, but a third party vendor. It's really not a big deal because I was between 2 high chairs anyway so I just registered for my second choice. I was just wondering how often this happens with amazon since a small toy that I had also registered for from a third party vendor is now slightly cheaper and sold directly through amazon.
It's only been 5 days and my shower isn't until the beginning of June. I'm just worried that once the invitations go out I won't be able to change the items.
Re: ? about amazon registry
It happens a lot and the prices are fluid, though often you will not that the item is sold by the 3rd party vendor but still listed under the original manufacturer. For example it may be Stupid Swing by Fisher Price, order fulfilled by ABC Baby. I am usually OK with these.
You can definitely change things later. I put many items on both Amazon and BBB/BRU, especially the big items because 1) I felt the possibility that two people would spend $200 on a car seat, for example, was slim and 2) you could always return the BBB/BRU one for things that were not bought and 3) I checked my registries obsessively, daily, and if someone bought an item I would delete and update it on the other list. Duplication gives people options, many people only look at the first list they open, find something, and never explore your other registry.
Btw, MANY people here will disagree with me regarding duplication, but considering that half of your guests will buy whatever they want that is not on your registry, and for the reasons above, I think it is a good idea.
And don't worry about changing your registry often, it is not a big deal at all. In fact, our shower was 2 weeks ago, I already got and did not use yet my completion coupons, and I am now duplicating a ton of BBB/BRU stuff to Amazon so I don't have to go into store :P
In addition to pp, if you have some Amazon-savvy shoppers, they will know this and realize they can click "buy elsewhere" (or whatever its called) and to purchase somewhere less expensive while marking the item as purchased on your registry.
Yes, it happens a lot with Amazon because of fluctuating inventory and price adjustments from other resellers. Also if a 3rd party seller happens to offer the item at a lower cost than Amazon.com, the "add to cart" option from the registry will purchase the product from 3rd party seller unless a savvy shopper knows how to specifically select the Amazon.com store.
That is my biggest gripe about the Amazon registry, that and the fact that sometimes packages come without packing slips or any info on who sent the gift.
Aside from vigilance with monitoring the registry, I am not sure how to really avoid those issues. You can also add the universal wish list feature and pick products from diapers.com, which is an Amazon company that has great customer service and free shipping on orders above $49 but without the hassle of the changing prices and sellers
