Babies on the Brain

I think it's time...

So after having 3 different people announce pregnancies this week and really evaluating our situation, DH and I realized that the only reason we are waiting is because of the timing of the school year. We talked and we realized it would be just as easy to go back after I have a baby, I don't HAVE to have a baby in the spring (though it would be nice). I think we are getting too caught up in "timing" which will most likely be thrown out since it probably isn't going to happen right away! So we decided to casually see what happens this spring, and if nothing happens by this summer, then I will start to temp, etc to get things moving. We're excited! We both know that we just can't wait anymore and I hate the jealous/awful feelings I get when other announce that they are expecting.

We have been married for 6 years, have a lovely home with rooms to spare, no debt, we've done A LOT of traveling and are going to Europe this summer, and we both have jobs? it's time...

  • I'm in a similar situation because of the school year! we decided to wait til the begining of august so we have plenty of fun summer trips etc. we also decided we aren't going to "try" (at first at least) we will just stop trying to prevent. I'm so excited, but I know we have to wait because of the school year. He'd be ready this second if i suggested it haha. We also are what i would consider "grown ups" now (have cars paid off, own house, have good jobs, have been on adventures together etc. ) good luck!

  • I totally think when you're ready you should go for it, but you said you have a Europe trip planned for this summer? Dang, I wouldn't plan a pregnancy around work, but I'd plan it around a vacation. Maybe it sounds stupid, but I have horrendous morning sickness, even with my singleton. Would you be heartbroken if you were sick and couldn't enjoy the Europe trip? I know that some people are perfectly fine during pregnancy, but my opinions are colored by my experiences. Plus, I love all of the wine and beer over there and wouldn't want to miss it. Just throwing that  out there. It can take a healthy couple up to a year to get pregnant, though, so keep that in mind.

  • I agree with PPs--wait until after the Europe trip.  First trimester is miserable and you want to enjoy that vacation.  I did a cruise second trimester and was still not comfortable and was nervous the whole time.

Best of luck when you are ready!

  • I took a 10 day trip to Denmark when I was 8 weeks to visit family and I was miserable.  Everything made me sick and I could barely eat out while I was there.  I lived on gingerale and crackers. Also, I was so tired due to the combinattion of jet lag and the pregnancy that it was hard to motivate myself to do much.  I did because I was there but I would have definitely had more fun if I was not pregnant at the time. Good luck though!

  • I'm a school counselor. On a fluke my first baby was born in April, I took 6 weeks, 2 days off and then it was summer. Worked perfectly. Timed my second baby the same week, took 8 weeks off, then summer. We are ready for baby number 3. I awant to try so badly right now, but we're waiting until my June cycle TTC so I can have the same maternity leave. It's so nice to be home almost 4 months with baby before utilizing daycare. Still, I understand how hard it is to wait!!
  • We've thought about the Europe thing, and we would be avoiding in May/June so that I am not sick while are are over there in July. I go back and forth with the timing thing, because I know it is VERY unlikely that it will happen right away, and then all the waiting was for a plan that was a bust!
