According to the History Channel (which I have disproven time and time again, so don't take too seriously) the reason the drivers side is on the right hand side dates back to when they'd ride horses into battle/duals/fights. On the right hand side, a driver can keep their sword in their right hand and out the window. Since the population is predominately right handed, it is more efficient than the US drivers on the left hand side. That being said, Niall and I would own the US with our left handed car sword fights.



or in this case, the more you know not to trust the History Channel.

It has some validity to it, as a set in habit explanation, but I still don't know. I can't imagine car makers saying "well, we should obviously put the driver's side on this side in case we need to sword duel while driving"
