We have the Melissa and Doug one and love it.  I try to avoid plastic toys (not sure the step 2 one is...but I know other step 2 stuff is) as much as possible, and the M&D one, although big, is awesome.

If you have Ikea, I think it is the best deal, but I like that one a lot and I like the magnetic white board feature better than chalk, which makes me sneeze.  I wonder if you could use it outside too.  I would like one I could use inside or outside, since we have  big porch and spend a lot of time out there.

yeah i typically would buy wooden- ill check out the m&d and ikea. i hate how big and clunky easels are in general... but i think mila would love one for christmas!
